Not Just Wine! The Value of Learning What is Undervalued

Hi friends,

This summer has been filled with wine education and wine tastings for friends and family! I recently hosted a tasting of lovely wine from the benchlands in the Niagara Peninsula for some ladies and gentlemen at my mom's retirement community. It looks like I will do this again at Christmas, and the request was ice wine. Possibly a vertical tasting! So fun:)

Since embarking on my wine scholar journey, I’ve discovered the hidden value of lesser-known wine regions and grapes. Marketing often inflates a bottle’s worth, but studying how wine is grown and its historical influence on cultures worldwide has taught me to seek authenticity over trends. This pursuit of knowledge has always fueled me, and now I’m diving into the design of food forests and permaculture practices suited for cold climates like Ontario...

As a young theatre scholar, I moved to Toronto to immerse myself in drama and dance. This vibrant city was my home for years, where my theatre company created original works that still fill me with pride. I purchased property here, travelled the world, and thrived in Toronto’s creative circles. But the pandemic shifted something fundamental. The convenience and open-minded community I once cherished have faded, and I’ve felt a growing pull toward nature. Now, I’m wholeheartedly preparing for a future rooted in Ontario’s agrarian, bucolic landscapes. As our precious green spaces dwindle, I see unparalleled value in cultivating a life of space, privacy, and rich soil—far beyond what my concrete jungle city home could ever offer! I just know I will find my creative flow again there...

My life has always unfolded in chapters, each driven by organic growth and the pursuit of new skills: the power of compounding interest in finance, the strategic advantage of securing rural land near Canada’s largest city, and the critical thinking needed to navigate today’s chaotic news cycle. These lessons are guiding me toward a new chapter of self-sufficiency in a calmer, more grounded environment. I’ll always keep my pied-à-terre in Toronto, but the city no longer holds the magic it once did. I know some of you feel the same...

As I prepare for this next chapter, I’ll be in Toronto regularly over the coming nine months and hope to reconnect with you, my dear friends and companions of two decades. Your presence has been a gift, illuminating my path with wisdom, laughter, and shared dreams. I’ve learned so much from so many of you, and I’m deeply grateful for the light you’ve brought into my life. Here’s to cherishing old memories and creating new ones. Veronica Sway IS NOT vanishing for good, but she’ll be embracing a quieter, under-the-radar life...once this new chapter unfolds. :) xoxo HOPE TO SEE YOU BEFORE THEN!
